The hotel rapidly became a hub of social activity and a preferred lodging for notable guests, including Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles, and Prime Minister John Diefenbaker. Its grand ballroom, dining facilities, and convention spaces were the backdrop for countless events and celebrations. In 2015, the City of Thunder Bay sold the building to a private company owned by local architect Asanhul Habib, who envisioned restoring the Royal Edward Arms to its original purpose as a hotel. Though plans shifted, the building remains a cherished residential space, now under the ownership of Ali Abbas since 2019.
